Hey beautiful mummies
When do you start brushing kids teeth, DS is nearly 9 months (cant believe it), he has 6 teeth, 4 top, 2 bottom.
His top teeth and really big chompers too. I dont think they are fully out yet and they have a gap in between them, is that normal? |

I started with a wash cloth right from the beginning when they first got teeth. So just wrapping it around my finger and going over the teeth, (watch out for biting).
I think at about a year or so I gave them each a childs tooth brush and just let them play with it in the bath, so they would chew on it and all, but it meant it was not something foreign to them, my children cannot get enough of brushing their teeth, they love it, and we have to hid the toothpaste and tooth brushes sometimes so they only brush twice a day.
There are tooth pastes out there that are made for little ones aswell. |

My DD had her first toothbrush by then. Maybe even earlier? She just played around with it at first thinking it was a funny game while I tried to brush her teeth. It was great though to get her used to the toothbrush early.
She now brushes her teeth everynight in the bath. I don't do toothpaste yet but am getting her her own special toothpaste this week at shopping This should be interesting to see how she goes with the paste.
I don't think she has needed the paste before now, I wanted to get her used to just the brush first. At this age she drinks heaps of tap water a day so she has that flouride and doesnt eat any sugar or anything.
The gaps in the teeth are fine and normal at this age. _________________

Yep thats good advice, I remember reading that on cyh or something I think. I never did it with DD because she just wouldn't let me! It was like wrestling a croc! Thats why the cute little kiddy toothbrush was so good. She loved it. It was like a new toy. _________________

Cool, thanks ladies.
The getting use to a toothbrush is a good idea, i'll have to pop one on the shopping list.
I'll do the face washer thing for now though i think. he hates me lifting up his lip to look at his teeth - he is a biter. |

We were having all kids of trouble getting the mr5 to brush his teeth but 'santa' brought him a kids electric one and now he begs to clean his teeth.
mr1 has 6 full chompers now with more imminent so we'll have to look into the kiddy toothbrushes asap to try to avoid the same problems as mr5. |

I started to brush Brocks teeth as soon as he got them. I just do it with a babies toothbrush and water. He now does it himself in the bath.

| there are special toothpastes for babies. my dentist said that adult toothpaste can damage enamel and cause holes. brushing teeth is essential to make children relise that its an important part of hygine and it builds as a habit. |
